NEWS IN AND AROUND

THE UPPER RICKERVILLE NEIGHBORHOOD

April 2010

Everyone has worked very hard for the last four and a half years to repair their homes and all are working to maintain the charm of our beautiful neighborhood.

The leaders of the association have worked to keep the whole neighborhood moving forward being very involved the Lambert Plan (plans for wet neighborhoods), the Unified New Orleans Plan (the Mayor’s plan for the whole city), School Facilities Master Plan for Orleans Parish, New Orleans Master Plan and Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, SELA Projects on So. Claiborne and Jefferson Ave., and NONPACC (the monthly meetings with the Second District New Orleans Police Department). In August 2010 the association will host it’s 16th Annual Night Out Against Crime Party.

It is time for all of the residents to become actively aware about our neighborhood. We would like to invite you to join or reestablish your membership in the Upper Rickerville Neighborhood Association. By being part of Upper Rickerville Neighborhood Association you can increase your protection for your family and property, and improve your awareness and communication with your neighbors and the whole neighborhood.

The Upper Rickerville Neighborhood Association, Inc. began April 1, 1991, and has been continuously successful to this date. The Upper Rickerville neighborhood is patrolled by uniformed N.O.P.D. officers The patrolmen are equipped with the association’s private cellular phone and police radio. (Cellular phone number is given to all members.) While patrolling the patrolmen will also be available (by phone) to see you safely to and from your residence, respond to suspicious activity and crime incidences, and check on your property when you are out of town. The boundary of the association area patrolled is Freret (lake side) to So. Claiborne (river side), both sides of Jefferson and Joseph, Octavia and all through streets.

The city/N.O.P.D. are now doing crime mapping available on line, which is being updated every ten days. Upper Rickerville will be able to give more detail on these reported incidences through communication between Block Captains and residents. We will also be able to e-mail you confirmed incidences as reported to the association, forward E-Blast notices from the Second District Major about incidences in the Uptown area, keep you informed on crime trends, suspicious activity, scams, etc., and inform you about neighborhood conditions in case of future evacuations. (Daily communication between members and the association about neighborhood conditions was very successful during the hurricane Gustav evacuation.). The association e-mail address is upperrickerville@upperrickerville.org. (For those that do not have e-mail we will be able to get this information to you in your home mailbox.)

The membership dues are $240.00 a year. (The dues have not increased since the association was founded in 1991.) This amount of membership dues is currently based on 100 participating members with 16 to 20 hours of patrol per week. As the membership increases so will the hours of patrol.

Contact the association for a membership card. Fill out the card and attach a check for your dues for $60.00 a quarter, $120.00 for half a year, or $240.00 for the whole year. Return the card and your dues to Upper Rickerville Neighborhood Association, 2724 Octavia St., New Orleans, La. 70115. Or you can drop it safely into the inside mailbox at this address.

Once your enrollment card and dues are received you will be issued an association sign for your front garden, the name and phone number of your Block Captain, the phone number for the patrol, all current information about the neighborhood, and current e-blasts from the Second District Major.

If you have any questions or concerns send your e-mail to upperrickerville@upperrikerville.org or call 865-9227.

Please help keep our neighborhood safe. Join the association. IT WORKS!
